Product Information
• What is Adobe® Captivate® 5?
Adobe Captivate 5 software is a rapid eLearning authoring tool that lets almost anyone create and maintain complex content like software demonstrations, interactive simulations, branching scenarios, and quizzes without programming. Its intuitive user interface and extensive feature set lets users craft professional content, be more productive, and deliver their eLearning virtually anywhere.
• Who should use Adobe Captivate 5?
Adobe Captivate 5 is ideal for eLearning professionals, educators, trainers, technical support managers, and sales and marketing professionals who need to rapidly create and conveniently maintain interactive simulations, training materials, software demonstrations, quizzes, self-service demos, and scenario-based training materials, without learning programming or outsourcing the task to professional developers.
• What kinds of training content can I create using Adobe Captivate 5?
You can create most types of simulation-based or interactive eLearning content with Adobe Captivate 5, from software simulations to quizzes. Whether you need simple SWF versions of slide-based presentations or complex scenario-based, soft-skills training, generate it easily, without programming.
• What are the new features in Adobe Captivate 5?
The new features in Adobe Captivate 5 include an intuitive user interface consistent with popular Adobe applications; support for popular video formats like AVI, MOV, FLV, and MPEG; the ability to create rich animations; Object Styles and Master Slides for projectwide formatting; the ability to host projects and track results on Acrobat.com*, and many more.
• Can Adobe Captivate 5 be integrated with a workflow within Adobe Flash®?
Yes. All the eLearning content you create using Adobe Captivate 5 can be saved in SWF format and viewed using a standard web browser with Adobe Flash Player 9 or newer software. You can also import custom-designed animations (like zigzag motion) created in Flash Professional into an Adobe Captivate project and apply them to selected objects; export Adobe Captivate content to Flash for advanced editing or scripting; and import SWF, FLA, and FLV files into Adobe Captivate projects.
• Does Adobe Captivate 5 integrate with Adobe Acrobat® ConnectTM Pro and Adobe Presenter†?
Adobe Captivate 5 provides tight integration with Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro software, allowing authors to improve training effectiveness by adding a layer of interactivity to Adobe Presenter† presentations and Acrobat Connect Pro online meetings. Users can also deliver content through standard web browsers and track and manage courses and learners by publishing Adobe Captivate files directly to Acrobat Connect Pro Enterprise Server.
• What kinds of rich media can I include in my Adobe Captivate content?
You can import content from a variety of formats, including image formats (PSD, GIF, JPEG, PNG, BMP, ICO, EMF, WMF and POT); sound formats (MP3 and WAV); and popular animation and video formats (SWF, FLA, FLV with metatags, AVI and MOV).
• Is Adobe Captivate 5 compatible with Learning Management Systems (LMSs)?
Yes. Adobe Captivate 5 generates SCORM 2004– and SCORM 1.2–certified content as well as AICC-compliant content and offers one-click publishing to leading LMSs. Adobe Captivate 5 automatically generates the manifest file — an XML document that contains all the data required by the LMS to communicate with Adobe Captivate content.
• Does Adobe Captivate 5 integrate with other authoring tools?
Yes. Adobe Captivate 5 integrates with Acrobat Connect Pro, so users can add interactivity and quizzes to Adobe Presenter† presentations or live meetings and publish directly to Acrobat Connect Pro Enterprise Server to track and manage courses, learners, and scoring data. Users can export Adobe Captivate projects to Flash for more complex editing and ActionScript® coding; the SWF files generated by Adobe Captivate can be used with any of the tools that support the insertion of SWF files, such as Adobe Acrobat or Dreamweaver® software. Adobe Captivate 5 also integrates with the Questionmark Perception assessment tool.
• Can I import Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 projects into Adobe Captivate 5?
You can import projects created in PowerPoint 2007 in the PPTX format, as well as the PPT format, into Adobe Captivate 5. You can also edit PowerPoint content in Adobe Captivate and keep the projects in sync.
• How does Adobe Captivate 5 compare with other screen recording tools (such as Camtasia)?
Adobe Captivate 5 lets you generate robust software simulations with multiple learning modes in a single recording session. These include demonstrations and interactive simulations for practice and assessment. The recording appears as a series of individual slides, and you can easily edit auto-generated text captions, highlight boxes, audio, mouse paths, and even the captured images.
• What international language support exists for Adobe Captivate 5?
Adobe Captivate 5 supports Unicode and is available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Korean versions. All editions include a completely localized user interface and documentation. The AutoText Captions feature automatically generates caption text in Chinese (Simplified), English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Spanish, and Swedish. Authors can customize the AutoText caption file to support additional languages.
• Is Adobe Captivate 5 compatible with Microsoft® Windows® 7?
Yes. Adobe Captivate 5 is certified for 32-bit editions of Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (Service Pack 3 recommended); Windows Vista® Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 1; and Windows 7.
• Is Adobe Captivate 5 available for the Mac OS?
Yes. Adobe Captivate 5 is now available for the Mac OS (Mac OS X v10.5.7) running on a multicore Intel® processor.
*Concurrent Licenses allow you to license only those computers in a lab situation that would be used at any one time. Example: A lab contains 50 computers... if only 35 computers are ever used at one time, then you may purchase 35 concurrent licenses and load the program on all 50 computers. If, however, a 36th person uses that program at any one time, you would be out of compliance with the license agreement. This type of license is rarely purchased, but it could save money if you are certain that only a limited number of machines will be used at any one time in a computer lab.
**Maintenance gives the customer unlimited upgrades until the date indicated. Maintenance should be ordered in an equal quantity as the license order, although this is not mandatory. For Adobe CLP contract orders, all maintenance expires on the same date and the prices are prorated accordingly.
